Friends of Animals collecting shoes to fund local rescue

LYNCHBURG, Tenn. — Moore County Friends of Animals Rescue & Adoption Center is asking the community to dig out those old shoes gathering dust in the closet — and put them to work for a good cause.

The local rescue and adoption center is hosting a shoe drive through June 15 collecting gently worn, used, and new shoes of all kinds — boots, flip-flops, sandals, and slippers included. The organization is paid by the pound for every shoe collected, with proceeds supporting its rescue and adoption operations. The shoes themselves are donated to developing countries.

Donation bins have been placed at seven locations around Lynchburg:

•  Friends of Animals Shelter, 1980 Fayetteville Hwy — Monday–Thursday, 8 a.m.–4 p.m.

•  Woodards Market — Monday–Friday, 5 a.m.–7 p.m.; Saturday, 5:30 a.m.–7 p.m.; Sunday, 7 a.m.–7 p.m.

•  First Community Bank — Monday–Thursday, 8 a.m.–4 p.m.; Friday, 8 a.m.–5 p.m.

•  Jack Daniel Employees’ Credit Union — Monday–Friday, 8 a.m.–4 p.m.

•  Lynchburg Veterinary Hospital — Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, 8 a.m.–5 p.m.; Wednesday, 8 a.m.–noon

•  Harley-Davidson on the Square — Monday–Saturday, 10 a.m.–5 p.m.; Sunday, 11 a.m.–4 p.m.
