LOCAL SPORTS — The Moore County Raiders beat Westwood Middle School in Lynchburg on Tuesday to win their final regular season game on Tuesday. Now they’ll move on to play a couple of rain out games playing Eagleville on April 5 and Chapel Hill on April 7. They host the first round of the middle school baseball tournament on April 15.
After managing a a nine run lead, the Raiders held on as the Rockets mounted a comeback attempt in the fifth inning. The final score was Moore County 15 and Westwood 5.
The Raiders earned six runs in the fifth inning to help them get the win. Peyton Martin, Landon Smith, John Jimenez, Brantley Hill, Logan Cashion, and Colton Maury all drove in runs that helped seal the win.
On the mound, Landon Smith got the start. He allowed zero hits and zero runs over four innings, striking out six. Brandon Works and John Jimenez pitched partial innings in relief. Landon Smith and Peyton Martin led for the Raiders with two hits each.
The W improved the middle school Raiders record to 11-1. •
