LOCAL NEWS — The Metro Council will meet on Monday, January 18 at 6:30 p.m. at the Lynchburg Legion Building in a regular session meeting. In order to follow Governor Bill Lee’s latest Executive Order, the meeting will be held virtually; however, the building will be open for anyone who wants to attend in person.

In new business, the Council will consider two new items: a resolution requesting that the Tennessee General Assembly approve the University of Tennessee bid to acquire the Martin Methodist College system and an ordinance allowing the Metro Utilities Department to move forward with a Community Block Development (CDB) grant application.

The Council will also be asked to appoint Larry Moorehead to the Interlocal Solid Waste Authority (ISWA). Established in 1995, the ISWA exists as a partnership between Moore, Giles, Lincoln, Bedford, and Franklin counties for the purpose of pooling resources to handle solid waste contracts within the region. Moore County gets one seat on that board. Due to term limits set by the Metro Council in June 2019, Moorehead will need Council approval to serve another six year term. His current term ended on January 1, 2021.
