LOCAL NEWS | Lynchburg — The Metro School Board will meet in a regular session meeting on Monday night at 6 p.m. in the Moore County High School Theatre. A work session will follow the regular meeting.

The Board will consider the second reading of the School Colors policy. During the April meeting, Director of Schools Chad Moorehead brought the policy before the board at the request of MCHS Athletic Director Josh Deal. Deal stated that his proposed policy changes were based on coach’s and student athlete feedback — specifically that of the new MCHS Wrestling team. {To read our complete coverage of that policy discussion, click here.}

In new business, the Board will discuss the Department of Education Summer Schedule. The DoE plans to be open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday beginning Monday, May 31 and extending through Thursday, July 22. They will resume a five day schedule on Monday, July 26.

They will also continue their discussion of the 2021-2022 school budget specifically the cafeteria budget and federal programs budget.

Director Moorehead will also present the Board with a Differentiated Pay Plan for teachers, which seeks to offer more competitive salaries to teachers in “difficult to fill positions” as well as “supplement the salaries for teachers assigned to additional roles and responsibilities to improve instructional capacity within the schools.” To read that proposal, click here.
