LOCAL NEWS | Sports — When nearly 25 kids are interested a single thing, that’s usually a good sign. Around 23 Moore County Middle School (MCMS) students expressed interest in and signed up for a new tennis team. With their sign up in hand, MCHS Tennis Coach Manny Buchanan appeared before the Metro School Board on Monday to request permission to form a new team.
“There isn’t a district, so we’d only play local teams in Tullahoma, Shelbyville, Lincoln County, and Manchester,” said Coach Buchanan. “This middle school team would also act as a feeder program for the high school team.”
The non-faculty head coach would be Ashley Abraham, who played tennis for the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. Assistant coaches would include Caleb Poston, Brooklyn Turner, Manny Buchanan, and Kim Beaver. Middle school tennis season starts in mid-March and runs through the end of April. All practices and matches happen at Lakewood Country Club in Tullahoma.
The school board unanimously approved the new team. Any interested student should contact Coach Buchanan. •
