LOCAL NEWS — Over the past year, an all volunteer group’s been working hard to address the spay and neutering needs of Lynchburg’s Square Cats and other feral, abandoned, or “community” animals. Moore County Operation Spay and Neuter collects donated items and then auctions them on a special Facebook page to raise money for their efforts. One hundred percent of the money pays to have both dogs and cats spayed/neutered, and brought up to date on vaccinations so that they can either be adopted into a loving forever home or re-released safely into the community.

This past week, they took on another local hot spot for stray and abandoned cats, the Metro Moore County Recycling Center. Over the past year, the number of abandoned cats there has grown exponentially. Volunteers will set traps this week to attempt to catch the animals. Once caught, they will be spayed/neutered, fully vetted, and then re-released. If you see a local cat with a clipped ear, you know they’ve already been treated.
