LYNCHBURG, Tenn. — Motlow State Community College announced on Wednesday that live student theatre will return to the Moore County campus in April with the presentation of Metamorphoses on April 21,22, and 23.
The play will be directed by Emily Seal with music direction from David Bethea, and stage design by Kenton Jones.
Written by American playwright Mary Zimmerman, Metamorphoses is an adaptation of the classic Ovid poem. The play is staged in a series of vignettes set in and around a “large pool” of water. It juxtaposes the ancient and the contemporary through an exploration of Greek mythology with a few comedic twists.
It debuted on Broadway in 2002 and earned Zimmerman a Tony Award for Best Director.
Motlow theatre students will present Metamorphoses on April 21 and 22 at 7 p.m. and April 23 at 2 p.m. in Power’s Auditorium inside Eoff Hall. The public is invited to attend. Admission is free to Motlow students with a valid student ID, and $5 for the general public. To reserve a seat, contact Motlow Humanities Secretary Daisy Martienez at 931-393-1700. •
