LYNCHBURG, Tenn. — The Moore County Varsity Raiderettes softball team erased a five-run deficit with a massive fourth inning and held on to defeat the Cornersville Lady Bulldogs 17-11 on Thursday in a high-scoring affair that featured 27 combined hits.
Trailing 9-4 heading into the bottom of the fourth, Moore County sent the game spinning in the other direction by plating eight runs on three hits. The key blow came from Ellie Carter, who worked a full at-bat and laced a double on the seventh pitch that drove in three, sparking the comeback in earnest.
Abby Bateman was Moore County’s standout at the plate, going 3-for-5 out of the eight spot in the order. Carter and Bateman each finished with three RBIs to lead the Raiderettes offensively. Lailar Logan chipped in two hits, and Kinsley Miller drew four walks to pace a patient Raiders lineup that accumulated 12 walks on the day.
Cornersville kept things interesting throughout, pounding out 16 hits. Georganna Peters went a perfect 4-for-4 to lead the Lady Bulldogs, while Madysyn Crawford — who also started in the circle — delivered a clutch two-run single on an 0-2 count during the Cornersville four-run fourth that briefly pushed the lead to 9-4. Alex Cardin and Amelia Begley each drove in two runs for the visitors.
Miller came on in relief and pitched five innings for Moore County to earn the win.
