SPORTS | After a bye week, the Moore County Raiders return to Doug Price Field on Friday to face off with the Jo Byrns Red Devils in a non-conference game.
Moore County(5-1, 1-1) currently sits at third place in Region 5 play behind Fayetteville City (6-0, 5-1) and Huntland (4-3, 1-1). Jo Byrns currently occupies the number four spot in Region 4 behind Gordonsville (4-2, 3-0), Monterey (5-0, 3-0), and Clay County (5-2, 2-1).
Moore County won its last game with a 21-0 victory in Eagleville on September 25. Jo Byrns got blanked by Monterey at home 31-0 last Friday.
The Raiders will need to be careful not to look past Jo Byrn on Friday. They play rival the Huntland Hornets the following week. They’ll also need to make sure the players stay focused and don’t get distracted by homecoming festivities.
The Raiders have managed to stay healthy so far this year and the week off surely helped with any nagging injuries. Hopefully, the boys in Columbia blue took the off week to improve some trouble spots. Against Eagleville, the Raiders struggled with turnovers (especially turnovers in the red zone) and unnecessary procedural penalties.
On the Red Devil side of the ball, Raider fans will want to keep an eye on Jo Byrns junior quarterback Ryan Dowlen. He’s a rushing QB who can scramble for first down yardage when necessary. A pair of senior running backs, Jake Chennault and Elijah Farmer, lead the Red Devils in yards on the ground.
The Raiders and Red Devils kick off at 7 p.m. at Raider Stadium. If you can’t attend the game, it will be broadcast live on Raider Country 105.1 and 95.5 FM with Joe Abraham and the Moore County Sports Network, on the NFHS Network, or The Lynchburg Times will post live score updates on our Facebook page. •
