Ross shines in Raiders 16-10 win over Mt. Pleasant

LYNCHBURG, Tenn. — Jax Ross was the difference-maker Tuesday as Moore County topped Mt. Pleasant 16-10 in a wild, back-and-forth game at Moore County High School.

Ross finished 4-for-4 with five RBIs, doing most of his damage with run-scoring singles in the second, fifth, and sixth innings. The Raiders backed him up with 17 hits total and eight stolen bases on a busy afternoon on the base paths.

It wasn’t a clean game early. Mt. Pleasant drew first blood in the top of the first on a Moore County error and a Zion Hollis double down the left field line. But the Raiders answered right back, stringing together doubles from Kohlby Williams, Deacon Liles, and Ryland Stovall to take a 4-2 lead after one.

Moore County pushed the advantage to 6-2 in the second before Mt. Pleasant clawed back to tie it at 6 in the fourth on a Preston Haywood single and a Hollis walk. The teams traded haymakers from there — the Tigers briefly pulled within one at 10-9 in the fifth, with Carson Howell and Haywood both driving in runs — before Moore County put it away with a three-run fifth of their own.

Jose Garcia got the win on the mound, going four innings and striking out four. Crew Costello came on in relief and threw two and two-thirds scoreless innings to close it out.

Colton Morey, Liles, Stovall, and Cole Taylor each had multiple hits for Moore County. Hollis went 3-for-3 to lead Mt. Pleasant.

The Raiders travel to Rocket City on Thursday. •
