LYNCHBURG — Registration is now open for Lynchburg’s annual 9/11 memorial event. The 2024 Tunnel to Towers 5K Run & Walk will be held on Saturday, September 7 in downtown Lynchburg.
Launched in 2021 by Metro Moore County Volunteer Fire Department and Jack Daniel’s Fire Brigade, the race will be managed by the Tunnels to Towers Foundation, who serve as the primary non-profit for the local fundraiser.
You can register for this years event by clicking here. Adult registration is $35 per person. Kids aged 13-17 can register for $20, kids under the age of 12 can register for $10. First responders and military can also participate for $30. All proceed benefit the Tunnels to Towers Foundation. The registration for the inaugural event in 2021 sold out in just two weeks.
For over 20 years, Tunnel to Towers has honored the legacy of fallen 9/11 FDNY firefighter Stephen Siller by supporting the heroes who continue to risk life and limb in the line of duty. To date, the foundation has provided over 450 mortgage-free homes to catastrophically injured veterans and first responders, Gold Star families, and fallen first responder families. The Lynchburg Tunnel to Towers 5K Run & Walk will celebrate the local first responders – firefighters, police, EMTs and paramedics – as well as the veterans and active-duty service members who work to keep our country and community safe. The race is one of 80 local events held across the country each year in support of Tunnel to Towers.
Local organizers ask that all current and former firefighters, law enforcement, and EMS to run/walk the event in their gear as a sign of respect and admiration for the lives lost that day.
Packets will be available beginning September 7 from 5-7 a.m. at the Lynchburg Gazebo and you can register the same day of the event but you may not receive a t-shirt and other race swag. Runners and walkers will start at the Lynchburg Town Square at 7:30 am. The approximately 3.1 mile course will continue down Main Street and returning to the town square finish line in front of the Old Jail Museum. Participants may run, jog, or walk the race. Road closing that day will be provided closer to the date of the event. It is a timed 5K and awards will be given to the fastest women/men in their appropriate age groups.
