6 Things to Do This Week In and Around Lynchburg

Summer is in full effect here in Lynchburg and that means most folks are looking for something to do. We’ve scoured tons of websites and Facebook pages to find our top recommendations. From an open mic night on the lake to a classic car show to food trucks in the park, there’s tons to do this week in southern, middle Tennessee.

TUESDAY | Open Mic Night | Twin Creeks Marina, Winchester

Do you sing and/or write your own songs? Why not try them out in front of an audience at Twin Creeks Open Mic Night. It happens every Tuesday through the summer beginning at 5 p.m. More info here.

FRI. & SAT. | Southern Summer Chili Days | Shelbyville Public Square 

Know someone who brags about their homemade chili recipe? Local chili connoisseurs will pack two events into a single weekend. The Tennessee Whiskey Trail Regional Chili Cookoff will happen on Friday with the ICS Tennessee State Chili Cookoff Championship happening on Saturday. Learn more here.  

FRI. & SAT. | Truck & Tractor Pull | 302 Cumberland Boulevard, Huntland 

It’s a small town, southern tradition that goes back for generations. Whether you’re a diesel head or just know a guy or gal who loves supped up trucks, the annual Huntland Truck and Tractor Pull is a ton of fun. Admission is $15 and kids seven and under get in free. The event is hosted by the Mid-South Puller Association. Learn more here.

FRIDAY | Food Truck Friday | Frazier-McEwen Park, Tullahoma

Can’t decide where to eat on Friday or is your house divided? Then head on down to the park in Tullahoma where a dozen food trucks will gather offering everything from barbecue to hamburgers, tacos, cheesecake, Japanese food and much more. It takes place from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. each Friday in July. 

SATURDAY | Car Show of the South | Shelbyville Public Square 

There’s just something about a bunch of classic cars lined up on a rural public square that captures the imagination. Not only are there some great photo ops, but many of these vehicles come with some amazing stories. Registration begins at 9 a.m. and the show will continue until 2 p.m. People’s Choice voting will kick off at 11 a.m.  

SATURDAY | Overnight Kayak Trip | Tims Ford State Park 

Scouts Troop 1848 will be leading the group via kayak to different islands around the state park. The group will decide on an island to spend the night on. Learn more here.
