LYNCHBURG – September is Suicide Prevention Month and serves as a time for counseling and medical professionals to promote resources for those in need. In observance of this, Motlow State hosted events to inform students about how they can help those who are struggling and the free assistance available to them on all Motlow campuses.

Motlow hosted a Tabling Event, Campus Walk, and Virtual Training session to help students and faculty get involved. Topics covered include suicide prevention strategies, how to recognize warning signs, and counseling resources.

The Licensed Counselor on the Moore County campus is Lisa Stone.

Motlow State prioritizes making mental health resources available as suicide is the second leading cause of death for college students each year. Every student is a valuable member of the Motlow Community and should have access to a safe, supportive space. Counseling services provide individual counseling sessions, self-help resources, support groups, outreach and prevention, programs and workshops, crisis services, consultations, and referrals for additional services. The College hopes that all students will take advantage of these resources to reduce stress, develop confidence, improve communication, strengthen relationships, and more.

Students interested in counseling services may email [email protected] or call 931-393-1960. The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline is 988 and is available 24/7 for anyone who needs assistance. Motlow students who wish to help support the mental health of fellow students can join the Mental Health Alliance or Active Minds Chapter by emailing the Counseling Center.
