LYNCHBURG, Tenn. — The Moore County Varsity Raiderettes came up just short Tuesday, dropping a 9-6 decision to the Cannon County Varsity Lionettes.

Cannon County wasted no time getting on the board in the top of the first, with Anna Wood scoring on a tag-up play, Bella Williams grounding into an RBI, and a passed ball adding another run to make it 3-0.

The Lionettes extended their lead with a Williams sacrifice fly in the third, but Moore County answered back in the bottom of the inning, pulling even on a sacrifice fly from Kenzie Howard and an RBI single from Bailey Dunn.

Cannon County reclaimed the lead for good in the top of the fifth when Williams delivered another sacrifice fly, pushing the score to 6-5 and eventually holding on for the 9-6 final.

Williams earned the win in the circle, allowing three hits and five runs — just two earned — over three innings, with two strikeouts and three walks. Kinsley Miller took the tough-luck loss for Moore County despite going the full seven innings, surrendering nine runs (six earned) on 13 hits with two strikeouts and two walks.

Howard anchored the Raiders’ lineup, leading the team with two RBI. Lailar Logan, Ellie Carter, Rian Ross, and Dunn each contributed a hit, while Ross drew three walks to pace a patient Moore County offense that collected seven free passes on the day. Whitney Fanning was a threat on the bases, swiping three of the team’s five stolen bags. The Raiders also turned one double play defensively.

Cannon County’s offense was dominant, racking up 13 hits. Addi Smith provided the big blow, leading the Lionettes with four RBI despite going 1-for-4. Annabelle McPeak had the best day at the plate, going 3-for-4, while Addison Estes, August Morris, Wood, and Isabella Powell each collected multiple hits. The Lionettes also turned one double play of their own.

Moore County will look to bounce back Thursday when they travel to take on the Richland Varsity Lady Raiders. •
