LOCAL NEWS — It all started in 1895 by a man named George Hudson who wanted to enjoy more sunlight in the summer … even if it meant sacrificing normal sunrise times. It sometimes complicates cross country time keeping and disrupts travel. But no worries, Daylight Savings Time (DST) will end this Sunday, November 3 at 2 a.m.

Officially, we’ll get back that hour of sleep we lost in the spring as we set clocks back one hour. It’s also a great time to install new batteries in your smoke alarms.

Many states, including Tennessee, are arguing to make Daylight Savings Time permanent. The State General Assembly passed the new Daylight Savings Time law in April. However, Congress needs to passed the Uniform Time Act of 1996, before the change becomes official. That bill would establish a system of uniform times across the nation.

Currently the only U.S. states that do not honor DST are Arizona (except the Navajo Nation) and Hawaii.•
