LOCAL NEWS — Temperatures will be dipping into the teens next week with a chance of snow next Tuesday. The South Central Human Resource Agency (SCHRA) reminds Moore County citizens that open enrollment on the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) happened on October 1.

The program provides heating energy assistance to elderly, handicapped, and low-income households living within 150 percent of the poverty line. The programs makes direct payments to utility companies, assists with the purchase of coal or wood, as well as offers crisis heating assistance to those who have received a cut off notice.

To apply, visit the SCHRA Neighborhood Service Center located inside the Moore County Health Department located at 251 Majors Boulevard. You must bring proof of household income, Social Security numbers for all family members, and the latest copy of your utility bill.

There are open on Tuesday and Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. To learn more about the program, visit their website. •
