
Spring has officially spring here in Lynchburg. Every Thursday, The Times scours the Internet and social media looking for the most interesting ways to spend our weekends. We call it the Hometown Bucket List. Whether you are a native, transplant, or just visiting, we guarantee these events will give you a proper small, southern town experience.
Here are our recommendation for Thursday, March 27 through Sunday, March 30:
FRIDAY • Snow White and Captain America at the Montana Drive In
It’s spring break here in Moore County and parents are struggling to keep those kiddos happy and occupied. Beginning on Thursday, the Montana Drive In will show a cool double featuring Disney’s new Snow White (rated PG) and Captain America Brave New World (rated PG 13). Whether you want to follow the adventure of a princess who joins forces with seven dwarfs to liberate her kingdom from her cruel stepmother the Evil Queen or watch as Captain America tries to discover the motive behind a nefarious global plan there’s no better place than an old fashioned drive in with the best concession stand around. FRIDAY • Killer Karaoke in Manchester
Combining the excitement of karaoke with the suspense of a murder mystery? Yes please. Killer Karaoke will premiere on Friday, March 28 at The Church@117 located at 117 East Fort Street in Manchester. This event gives participants the chance to not only showcase their singing skills but also solve a thrilling murder mystery. It will start at 7 p.m. and costs just $7 at the door. FRIDAY • Gas Lantern Night Hike at Stone Door in Beersheba Springs
The Great Stone Door hike offers an impressive cliff line overlooking the Savage Gulf but it’s also got a cool history. It gets its name from a top-to-bottom crack in the cliff that resembles a door left slightly ajar. Legend holds that Native Americans once used it. On Friday night, Savage Gulf State Park will offer a unique Gas Lantern Night Hike at Stone Door. This hike is two miles long round trip and will take visitors to several overlooks to experience the night sky. It starts at 7 p.m. and you’ll meet at 1183 Stone Door Road in Beersheba Springs. SATURDAY • Live music by Thomas Heath at Beans Creek Winery
Live music is cool and live music at a local winery just adds an elevated cool factor. On Saturday, March 28, Thomas Heath will play at Beans Creek Winery in Manchester. The Shelbyville singer, songwriter, plays country covers and original songs. We’re a big fan of his single, The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly. You can check out more of his songs on Apple Music. SUNDAY • Whiskey Waffle at the Food Truck Patio in Lynchburg
Lynchburg boasts lots of great restaurants, but every now and then it’s fun to try something new. The Tennessee Whiskey Trailhead in Lynchburg hosts food trucks seven days a week to give locals and visitors alike an opportunity to taste all of Tennessee. On Sunday, Lynchburg’s own Whiskey Waffle we be there. You can get chicken and waffles, breakfast sandwiches made with waffles, cinnamon rolls topped with bacon, and tons of other unique menu items.
