WHISKEY INDUSTRY NEWS | Each December, Whisky Advocate Magazine names its list of Most Exciting Whiskies for the current calendar year, and this year a little local product made that list. The publication ranked Jack Daniel’s Bonded Tennessee Whiskey as the Most Exciting Whiskey on 2022. Jack Daniel’s 10 Year Old made the number four spot in 2021 and Jack Daniel Single Barrel Special Reserve also made the list in 2018.
Jack Daniel’s release the Bonded Tennessee Whiskey series as one of two new Bottled-in-Bond offerings in May of this year. It and Jack Daniel’s Triple Mash Blended Straight Whiskey are the first two permanent expressions in the brand’s new Bonded Series. As stipulated by the Bottled in Bond Act of 1897, a bonded whiskey must be distilled by a single distiller during a single season, matured in a government bonded warehouse for at least four years, and bottled at 100 proof. {To read our full coverage of that release, click here.}
“All of us in Lynchburg are blessed to work at a complete distillery that gives us the opportunity to experiment, innovate and make what we believe is the most exceptional Tennessee Whiskey in the world,” said Chris Fletcher, Jack Daniel’s Master Distiller. “Jack Daniel’s Bonded is a perfect marriage of our history and innovation, and it’s an honor to have this work recognized by our friends in the whiskey industry. We hope we’ve made Mr. Jack proud.”
Jack Daniel’s Bonded is Jack’s time-honored recipe of 80% corn, 12% malted barley, and 8% rye. Barrels were hand selected for their unique and particular characteristics of deeper color, flavor, and aroma, which bring a darker, richer, and more oak-forward character to Jack Daniel’s Bonded. It is a big, bold Tennessee Whiskey at 100 proof with layered notes of caramel, rich oak, and spice giving way to a pleasantly lingering finish.
Each year, the Whiskey Advocate Buying Guide reviewer taste hundreds of bottles in order to make recommendations to their readers. Their samples often include rare or extremely limited releases. The list rankings are weighted on both value and availability. They are ranked by a panel of international reviewers who taste of series of whiskey flights blind. According to the magazine, the panel did not know the identity of the whiskies being tasted—not their producer, country of origin, age, nor price.
Redbreast Kentucky Oak Edition, Barrell Vantage, Dewars 12 Year Old, and Westward Cask Strength rounded out the top five. To see the entire list, click here.
Jack Daniel’s Bonded Tennessee Whiskey is available across the US and international markets in 700mL bottles for suggested retail prices of $29.99. •
