LOCAL NEWS — Originally developed for military men who fought overseas during World War II, the GED or High School Equivalency Certificate offers those who experienced a hiccup during their high school days to get back on track. Since it’s inception, it’s helped over 15 million students and today 1 in 20 college students got there via a GED.

Beginning October 3, the Lincoln (Moore) County Adult Literacy will offer free GED classes each Thursday at 5 p.m. at the Moore County Public Library. The classes teach a general education in five subject areas: reading, writing, mathematics, science, and social studies.

The classes are open to all Moore County residents and those from the surrounding areas but students must be 17 years of age and possess a valid driver’s license or other photo ID. Two signup dates will be offered prior to the class date. Interested students can come by on two Saturdays, September 21 or 28, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. to get signed up.
