LOCAL OBITUARY — Walter Baxter Masters, age 78, of Franklin, Tennessee died on October 9, 2022 at Brookdale Belle Meade Senior Living in Nashville after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
Born on July 11, 1944 in Glasgow, Kentucky, Mr. Masters grew up in Lynchburg. He graduated from Tennessee Tech in Cookeville in 1966 with a degree in Industrial Arts. Following graduation, he moved to DeKalb County, Georgia, where he taught high school and at DeKalb Tech Jr. College. After two years, he made a career change and became design engineer with Reliance Electric in Stone Mountain, Georgia. From there, he took a job as Regional Sales Manager with MM Systems in Tucker, Georgia where he designed metal roofing. This led him to Nashville in 1978 where he opened his own business, Masters & Sons Co., Inc. – a manufacturer and distributor of commercial roofing products. He retired in 2005.
He is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 50 years, Patricia M. Masters as well as his daughter, Christie Warner; his son, Walter Darin; and stepson, Keith Brooks. He also leaves behind five grandchildren, Sam, Drew, Cody, Jake, Sidney and a great granddaughter, Amelia. He is also survived by sisters, Kim Bohnert (Jerry); Gail Buckner (Buck); brother, Colin Masters (Dot); as well as many nieces and nephews.
His parents Walter Daniel and Glade Masters and a sister, Ann Roder all preceded him in death.
Visitation will take place on Thursday, October 13 from 5 to 8 p.m. and on Friday, October 14, 2022, at 11 a.m. Funeral services will begin at 11:30 a.m. at Harpeth Hills Funeral Home located at 9090 Hwy 100 in Nashville.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorial donation be made to the to Alzheimer’s Association. •
