LOCAL SPORTS | LYNCHBURG — No, we ARE the champions, my friend.
The Moore County Middle School Raiders snagged a signature 11-1 win in Lynchburg on Thursday to earn the District 8A middle school crown. Moore County pitchers Aiden Webster and Colton Maury held the Champions to just one run over six innings to get the 11-1 “mercy rule” victory. Starter Webster allowed just one hit and one run over four innings – striking out three. Maury came in to relieve in the fifth inning allowing zero hit and zero runs.
Raider Landon Smith got things going for Moore County when he grounded into a double play while still managing to knock in one run. Moore County’s big inning came in the sixth with five runs. Bryson Carter and Logan Cashion led that rally on a Cascade error that kept the ball in play. A walk by Braydon Works and a groundout by Peyton Martin also got the Raiders on the board.
Webster, Martin, Smith, Carter, and Cashion all managed a hit each. The Raiders also tore up the bases with five steals. Webster led in steal with two. •
