LOCAL NEWS — Domestic violence touched the lives of two Moore County Middle School students over the weekend. According to reports, January 25 around 4:30 p.m. shots rang out at 1620 Vernon Ridge Road. Franklin County Sheriff’s Department officials say that Christopher Maxwell, age 48, remains in police custody after shooting and killing his wife, Holly Raquel Maxwell, age 46, before turning the gun on his two teenage sons aged 13 and 14. Maxwell is being charged with first-degree murder.
The two sons, who attend Moore County schools, were transported to two separate state level one trauma centers: Erlanger Barones Hospital in Chattanooga and Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville.
Members of the Moore County community are rallying around the two students. If you’d like to donate items to be delivered to the teens while they remain hospitalized they can be dropped of at both Lynchburg Elementery or Moore County High School. Requested items include snacks, lotions, chapsticks, water flavor packets, deodorant, toothbrush and toothpaste, dry shampoo, hand santizers, blankets, warm socks, books and other reading materials.

If you’d prefer to give a monetary donation, the group is also collecting restaurant gift cards, gas cards (to cover travel expenses for family members), or monetary donation sealed inside envelopes. The group has also set up two ways to give money directly to the boys. Local Laura Swinford, a friend of the boy’s mother, has set up a GoFundMe account. Click here to access it. As of this update, they’d raised over $1800 for the local students.
There is also an account set up at Moore County Bank in Lynchburg in the Maxwell brother’s names. •
