LOCAL NEWS — Did you happen to notice that your September water bill seemed a little higher? No, you don’t have a water leak (probably), it’s simply time for the Metro Utilities Departments’s (MUD) rate adjustment. Tennessee state law mandates that MUD operate self-sufficiently and that customer rates reflect the actual cost of providing water and sewer in Metro Moore County. Customer fees are MUD’s only source of revenue.

Previously, the water rates were $24.88 for the first 2000 gallons and $10.15 for each additional 1000 gallons. Now those rates are divided into residential, commercial, and industrial rates. Residential water rates include a $7.70 service charge and $9.65 per 1000 gallons. Commercial water rates include a $7.70 service charge and $12.28 per 1000 gallons. Industrial water rates include a $7.70 service charge and $13.94 per 1000 gallons.

Previously, sewer rates were $18.24 for the first 2000 gallons and $10.49 for each additional 1000 gallons. Now those rates are divided into residential and commercial. Residential sewer rates include a $5.38 service charge and $11 per 1000 gallons. Commercial sewer rates include a $5.38 service charge and $14 per 1000 gallons. There is no industrial sewer rate listed on the MUD’s information.

The last rate increase happened in August 2018. Before that, water and sewer rates had not been adjusted since July 2012. For more information, visit the MUD website by clicking here or call them at 931-759-4297. •
