Raiders fall to Eagleville in District Tourney 4-3

EAGLEVILLE, Tenn. — The Moore County Raiders fell to Eagleville on Thursday in a District 9A Tournament game, but they still have a chance at advancing to the Region 5A Tournament with a win in the consolation bracket on Friday.

The Raiders hung tight with the Eagles five innings on Thursday. If fact, they led through the much of the game, but Eagleville’s Marshall Spann singled to score the winning run in the bottom of the fifth and Moore County bats couldn’t connect down the stretch.

The Raiders got on the scoreboard first in the top of the first when Eagleville committed an error and Ethan Walls grounded into a fielder’s choice – each scoring one run to put Moore County up 2-0. Cole Taylor added another single in the top of the second to extend the lead.

Eagleville then scored two runs in the bottom of the third on a home run to left field to pull within one.

Colton Morey, Taylor, Walls, and Peyton Martin all collected one hit for Moore County. Taylor and Walls each managed RBIs and Taylor also stole two bases.

Morey got the start on the mound and pitched four innings – facing 19 batters and striking out two. Aiden Webster came into relief pitch in the fifth  – facing 12 batters and striking out one.

They will play the winner of the Huntland Hornets versus Fayetteville Tigers consolation game, which takes place on Friday at 4:30 p.m. The Raiders game will take place after that game at 7 p.m. (weather permitting).
