The Raiders stretched this weekend — taking on the Class 3A, District 12, Region 6’s Franklin County Rebels on Friday and the Class 4A, Region 3, District 6’s Lincoln County Falcons on Saturday. They dropped both games but two Raiders, Anderson Sharpe and Colton Morey, managed double-digit points.

Rebels pull away in the second period

Moore County led early against Franklin County on Friday. The Raiders put up 10 first period points thanks to treys by Cooper Dickey and Sharpe and a basket each from Morey and Tristyn Gray. The Raiders lead by four at the end of the first.

But the Rebels woke up in the second and came back with a vengeance —putting up 16 points while holding Moore County to a lone Morey basket to go into the break leading, 22-12. The 14-point gap would prove too much to overcome.

Moore County put up 16 in the third. Sharpe led with five followed by Morey and Avery Rogers with four points each. Deacon Liles managed a basket inside and Gray hit one of two from the line. The Rebels scored 19 third period points and continued to lead, 41-28 heading into the final period.

Down the stretch, the Rebels managed another 16 while holding Moore County to just 12, Gray led the final stanza with five points followed by Dickey with four and Sharpe with a trey.

At the final buzzer, Moore County dropped a non-district game to Franklin County at home, 57-40.

Anderson Sharpe led with 11 points followed by Colton Morey and Tristyn Gray with eight points each. Cooper Dickey followed them closely with seven. Avery Rogers managed four points and Deacon Liles added another two.

Moore County can’t recover big Falcon second half

The following night, the Raiders got beat by the Lincoln County Falcons in Lynchburg. The Falcons outscored the Raiders by eight in the first period and eight in the second period to build a 16-point halftime lead.

Morey and Sharpe led in the first half for the Raiders with nine points each. Deacon Liles added two and Drew Hardison and Avery Rogers swished one from the line each. Heading into the locker room, Moore County trailed, 35-19.

The Falcons put up a 28-point third period to squash any Raider dreams of a second half comeback. Lincoln County’s Maddox Franklin led that charge with nine points. On the Moore County side, Morey continued to reign with eight points.

They would be his last as Lincoln County held Moore County scoreless in the fourth quarter. At the final buzzer, Moore County got handed a tough 79-31 loss.

Morey led for the Raiders with 17 points followed by Anderson Sharpe with nine, Deacon Liles added two more and Avery Rogers, Drew Hardison, and Jace Deal all added one from the line each.

The Raiders will return to District 9A action with a rematch at Richland on Tuesday. The Giles County  Raiders beat Moore County at home on January 16 by a final of 50-42. Moore County will be looking to exact a little revenge, hand Richland their first district loss of the season, and move up in the District 9A standings. •
