STATE NEWS — The Tennessee Wildlife Resource Agency (TWRA) warned local hunters and fishers today about a scam website appearing in search results on Google when you type in the words “Tennessee fishing license.” The scam website prompts citizens to enter personally identifying information like name, date of birth, social security number, driver’s license number, phone number, email address and residential address. It harvests the information but never prompts the user to actually pay for a hunting or fishing license.

According to the TWRA, the website appears to have been created outside the United States, and the TWRA is working to get the site shut down. TWRA encourages anyone who has submitted information through this scamming site to monitor or freeze their credit. The only legitimate place to apply for and purchase a state hunting or fishing license is https://gooutdoorstennessee.com or individuals may also buy licenses through the TWRA On the Go app available on iPhone and Android. •
