Due to the increased risks associated with heavy equipment in those areas, the Tims Ford boat ramp will be closed beginning, Thursday, July 31 through Sunday, August 3 so that TVA can install a segmental floating bulkhead that will allow them to dewatering spillway gates during maintenance.
A segmental floating bulkhead’s purpose is to dewater an individual bay upstream of a spillway gate. Dewatering a spillway bay without having to lower the reservoir minimizes generation losses, mitigates recreation and environmental impacts, allows opening of each spillway gate through its full range without spilling water in addition to allowing the gate to be serviced in a dry condition.
Normandy Boat Ramp located near the TVA Normandy Dam Public Use Area will also be closed July 30 through August 2 so that similar work can be completed in Coffee County. The closures will also impact the parking lots nearest the boat ramps. Signage will be posted. •
