TIMS FORD STATE PARK – The first Saturday in June is the annual day to celebrate hiking trails in Tennessee. It’s one of four signature hikes that the Tennessee State Parks System hosts every year. Tennessee State Parks are offering a variety of ranger-led day hikes, night hikes, history hikes, nature hikes and trail clean-up hikes. With more than 1,300 miles of trails ranging from easy, paved trails to rugged backcountry trails to scenic waterways they will have something for everyone.
Tims Ford State Park located in nearby Franklin County plans several events. There will be a National Trail Day Morning Hike at 8 a.m. as well as a National Trail Day Bike Ride at 2:30 p.m. There will also be a National Trails Day Overnight Backpacking Trip planned for that day. The U.S. Coast Guard will also be onsite on Saturday for a Auxiliary Vessel Examination at Holiday Landing located near the Blue Gill Grill.
Other scheduled events include hikes at Henry Horton State Park in Chapel Hill and Savage Gulf State Park in Grundy County.
Celebrating American Hiking Society’s National Trails Day provides the perfect opportunity to set off on a local trail with others in your community. Join the nationwide movement to give back to trails and build a world where everyone feels welcome and has access to enjoy the great outdoors. Millions of hikers, bikers, paddlers, horseback riders, trail clubs, federal and local agencies, land trusts, and businesses come together in partnership across the country to forge a more inclusive trail community and advocate for, maintain, and clean up public lands and trails.
