LYNCHBURG, Tenn. — If you’ve never run a color run, here’s the idea: you start the race clean, and you finish it looking like a confetti cannon went off in your direction. Volunteers stationed along the route blast runners with bursts of brightly colored powder — safe, cornstarch-based, and completely washable — as they pass. By the finish line, the crowd is a blur of pinks and yellows and blues, and nobody much cares about their finishing time.
Lynchburg’s own version of that tradition, the Vibin’ in the Hollow Color Run, is back for its fourth year. The Lynchburg Elementary School PTO is hosting the event on April 25 beginning at 8 a.m., right in the heart of Spring in the Hollow weekend. Participants can choose between a 5K or a 1-mile route, making it genuinely family-friendly — the 1-miler is designed for younger kids and casual participants who want the color experience without the full 3.1 miles.
This year, as in years past, the run comes with a little friendly competition built in. The grade level with the most student registrations wins an ice cream party the following week at school. It’s the kind of incentive that tends to get kids lobbying their parents fairly hard.
The one thing to know right now: T-shirt orders are being placed on Monday, April 12. Anyone who registers after that date cannot be guaranteed a race shirt. That gives families this weekend to sign up if they want one.
Registration is open now, just click here. The PTO’s ask is simple — grab a friend and get out there. •
