LOCAL SPORTS NEWS — The Moore County High School Raiders beat the Huntland Hornets 5-4 on Tuesday to end the 2021 regular season.

Moore County’s varsity boys ended the regular season in dramatic, last minute fashion. Huntland got the early lead – putting three runs on the board in the first inning before Moore County battled back in the seventh inning. The tie run came when Gage Burt singled on a 2-1 count. Then Kyler Parker hit a sacrifice fly to score the winning run.

On the mound, Jacob Baker got the win. He pitched all eight innings – allowing just six hits and four runs while striking out four Hornet batters.

Gage Burt led at the plate with three hits on three at bats. Burt and Chris Martin contributed multiple hits and teammates Ryder Morey, Kaden White, Dustin Thomas, and Jacob Baker all contributed hits.

The win gives Moore County a 9-1 district record and a two game lead in District 8A play. Eagleville is the runner up with a 7-3 district record and Fayetteville is third in the standings with six district wins. The Raiders will play at Friendship Christian in Lebanon on Thursday. This will be the first ever meeting for the two teams. •
